It’s been over four weeks since I completed my placement as a volunteer with local organisation ADES (Asociación de Desarrollo Económico Social Santa Marta) and Progressio ICS.
I learnt a lot in 10 weeks alongside my fellow national and UK volunteers. It is an experience that I will never forget, where the language barriers between the group of national and UK volunteers was not an impediment for us to succeed in our project, one which will greatly benefit the community of Santa Marta, and I would say, for future generations.
I am so happy and proud to have been part of this amazing group of Progressio ICS volunteers. I never imagined that we would be able to host an Eco-festival and do positive things for the community all based on our talents. It was also very rewarding to see my fellow volunteers create beautiful and creative objects from solid waste. Now the community of Santa Marta know that it is possible to make different kinds of objects from recycled materials.
I remember the emotions I felt when delivering a brief presentation in English, while a fellow UK volunteer was delivering hers in Spanish. This sort of connections, allowed us to progress with our projects and understand our work, while putting a lot of dedication and passion into it.
Now that our placement is over, we remain committed and with the energy to keep working to continue to benefit the community and the environment. And at the same time, to share the ideas and work techniques that we learnt during our placement with other people in the community.
I would go on writing more about my experience as a volunteer, but then I would never end this blog! I would like to thank the people who supported and allowed me to have this beautiful experience, to all the ADES-Progressio ICS staff for their valuable effort, dedication and work promoting the environment and El Salvador. I hope they will continue having further successes in their work for our planet.

Mi experiencia de vida
Han pasado alrededor de cuatro semanas desde que finalizó mi ciclo como voluntario con ADES (Asociación de Desarrollo Económico Social Santa Marta) y Progressio ICS.
Aprendí mucho en diez semanas junto con mis compañeros nacionales y del Reino Unido. Es una experiencia que nunca olvidaré, donde la barrera del idioma entre los grupos no fue ningún impedimento para que sacáramos a flote el trabajo que es de gran beneficio y valor para la comunidad, y porque no decir, para las nuevas generaciones.
Estoy tan feliz y orgulloso de haber pertenecido a este gran grupo de voluntariado de Progressio ICS. Yo nunca imaginé que podríamos organizar un Eco-festival y hacer cosas positivas por la comunidad con nuestro talento. Al ver a mis compañeros crear muchas cosas bonitas y creativas con desecho solidos es algo gratificante. Ahora, las personas saben que si se puede hacer diferentes tipos de cosas con materiales reciclados.
Recuerdo, la emoción que sentí al hacer una pequeña presentación en inglés mientras una compañera británica lo hacía en español. Ese tipo de conexiones, nos hiso avanzar y entender nuestro trabajo, ponerle mucha dedicación y pasión.
Ahora, nos quedan las ganas y energía por seguir trabajando en beneficio de la comunidad y a favor de nuestro medio ambiente. A la vez, transmitir las ideas y técnicas de trabajo aprendidas en este ciclo a otras personas.
¡Seguiría escribiendo más sobre mi experiencia como voluntario, pero nunca terminaría este blog! Solo me resta agradecer a las personas que con su apoyo hacen posible esta hermosa experiencia, a todo el equipo de ADES - Progressio ICS por su valioso esfuerzo, dedicación y trabajo por nuestro medio ambiente y país, espero que sigan cosechando más éxitos para el planeta.
