Progressio does a lot of work on ‘sustainable farming’. But what does that actually mean in practice? Especially somewhere like Zimbabwe, where drought and lack of resources are such a problem?
When I was in Zimbabwe recently, our development worker Cliff Maunze took me on a tour of some of the ‘food gardens’ of the small-scale farmers that our partner organisation, Environment Africa, works with. (That’s Cliff on the right in the picture at the top, with one of the farmers.)
I saw ingenious ways of conserving and using water, and of growing diverse, mixed crops that can feed families – and generate an income from selling produce at the local market. Take a look at the slideshow to find out more.
