Working towards a long-term commitment for Global Family Planning
In January 2015, our Policy and Advocacy Officer, Fatima Haase, attended the International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP).
Over 4000 people from more than 100 countries came together at the ICFP, with the aim of finding a strategy to reduce the unmet need for family planning across poor and fragile communities which, for example, results in serious harm to health, forced and early marriages and being pulled out of school for all too many younf women and girls.
One of our objectives for the conference was to distribute a policy briefing to key decision makers who were there. The briefing called on policy makers and others to prioritise working on ending discriminative norms, that are also influencing access to family planning and decision making.
Our policy officer was able to hand over and discuss her recommendations in the document with Baroness Verma, who is the UK champion for ending violence against women and girls.
